Kinect SDK For Windows In The Works

  1. Kinect will offer an SDK for Windows in the near future according to Microsoft, with a beta available as soon as this spring. The Windows SDK will provide developers access to Kinect's range of sensors, making low-level sensor information as well as high-level "skeleton tracking" available for use in applications.

  2. The planned SDK is a response to the demand for third party applications of Kinect. Initially Microsoft plans to offer only non-commercial licensing, but has added that commercial licensing will be introduced at a future date.

  3. In the more distant future, Microsoft has said that it envisions Kinect being integrated directly into PCs, possibly built into monitors and laptops.
